德國作曲家韓德爾(1685-1759)大約在二十五歲的時候移居英國，後來就以倫敦為中心,從事各項音樂活動，他所寫的神劇－〔彌賽亞〕（救世主）是音樂史上的一個曠世巨作．它的結構分別由三個部份組成；第一部－有關基督降臨的寓言與實現，第二部－基督的受難與犧牲，第三部－基督的復活與永恆的生命，它的故事就是在描寫耶穌一生的故事．１７４１年，都柏林的慈善音樂團體委託韓德爾譜寫新作．韓德爾被這個由好友賈爾茲．傑能士撰寫的劇本所感動，奮力急書，在短短三個禮拜即完成譜曲的工作，隔年１７４２年在都柏林首演． 
至今，〔彌賽亞〕是韓德爾最受大眾數迎的作品，全曲演出大約需時二個半小時．而〔合唱〕（Chorus)是彌賽亞裡的重頭戲．曾有人說過這些每隔一些時候就出現的壯麗合唱，形成了〔彌賽亞〕的核，的柱，的背骨．這張專輯挑選了１８首合唱曲，幾乎是劇中最重要的合唱曲．值得一提的是，１９４３年這齣神劇移師倫敦首演的那一場，喬治二世親臨聆賞．當進行到合唱唱出〔哈利路亞〕時，喬治二世感動得起立恭聽，所有的　民因而也都從座位站起來.相沿至今，一個不成文規定，每當音樂會唱到〔哈利路亞〕時，聽眾就都會自動站起來了．現在，當你在聽Hallelujah!的時候是不是也會感動得起立呢？
